Improves Productivity or Work Performance
Salt enriched with iron and iodine was given to some houses in a tea plantation in South India
The remaining houses in the tea plantation did not consume the above enriched salt
Hemoglobin analysis was carried out in all the tea pickers before the start of the study and one year after using the enriched salt. Productivity data or the average quantity of tea leaves plucked by the tea pickers was also collected.
At the end of the year, in the tea pickers who consumed the enriched salt , their average haemoglobin level had increased from 8.9to 10.2 g/dl and their corresponding tea picking average had increased from 24.8 kg to 26.2 kg, which could increase annual tea production by 330 tonnes.
