Prevents Anaemia
Salt enriched with iron and iodine was given to 6 villages (2 each) in Karnataka, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh and the enriched salt was used for one year
Neighbouring villages were also chosen where the above enriched salt was not given.
Hemoglobin was estimated in all the villagers before giving the enriched salt and one year after the enriched salt was used.
All the villagers were dewormed at six monthly intervals.
There was a significant improvement in hemoglobin in all the villagers who consumed the salt enriched with iron and iodine, in all the 3 states Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, where as this was not so in the villagers who did not consume the enriched salt.
